Dockers Win USAFL Division 4 National Championship

The Cincinnati Dockers Australian Rules Football Club finished their 15th anniversary season by winning the United States Australian Football League (USAFL) Division 4 National Championship last weekend at the 2011 USAFL National Championship Tournament at the Onion Creek Soccer Complex in Austin, Texas. The Dockers went undefeated throughout the tournament, winning all four of their matches to take home the trophy.

In their opening match, the Dockers defeated the Las Vegas Gamblers easily thanks in part to a strong first-half forward wind by a score of 91-6. Later that day, Cincinnati overcame incredible odds to defeat the Golden Gate / Los Angeles Roos 20-8.

These two victories earned them the #2 seed in the semi-finals, where they faced the Denver Bulldogs. This was an even, tough-fought battle that saw the Dockers come out victorious 21-11.

This set up the USAFL Division 4 Grand Final showdown against the Fort Lauerdale Fighting Squids. This match went back-and-forth, and was easily the Dockers’ toughest match all weekend. In the end, the Dockers came through by just 6 points, winning 26-20.

This USAFL National Championship is the Dockers’ 3rd in the last 4 years, and their 5th championship overall.

As a reminder, the United States Australian Football League (USAFL) announced that Mason, OH will host the 2012 USAFL National Championship Tournament. This tournament is the largest of its kind in the world, featuring over 1000 athletes competing for over 40 teams from all across the USA and Canada.
