Dockers to Conclude Regular Season in Champion vs. Champion match |
The Cincinnati Dockers Australian Rules Football Club, reigning USAFL Division 4 champions, will finish their 13th regular season on the road when they challenge the Kansas City Power, the reigning USAFL Division 3 champions, in a non-conference match this Saturday at Buder Park just outside of St. Louis, MO at 2 PM Central Time. This will be the Dockers’ last match before this year’s National Championship Tournament in Mason, OH.
The Kansas City Power are one of the older clubs in the United States, having participated in the USAFL play since 1998. Kansas City is also a very successful club that has won two USAFL Division 3 titles. They defeated North Carolina to win the championship in 2003, and just last year, they defeated St. Louis and Austin to win their second championship, thus setting up this “Champions vs. Champions” match. In Kansas City’s most recent encounters, they went 2-1 in a 4-team tournament which they hosted, defeating teams from Dallas and Des Moines, and losing to Denver, 6-time USAFL Division 1 Champions.
Cincinnati is no stranger to championships either, winning 3 in the club’s 13-year history. They won the inaugural tournament in 1997, brought home the Division 3 title in 2004 in Atlanta, and last year winning the Division 4 championship in Colorado Springs. They will look to rebound from their previous match against the Columbus Jackaroos over one week ago, where they let a 5-point halftime lead slip away in a condensed 40-minute exhibition.
After this match, all sights will be set on the USAFL National Championship tournament, which will take place in the Dockers’ back yard at Heritage Oak Park in Mason, OH. This tournament will be held on the weekend of October 10th and 11th.
The Cincinnati Dockers are an Australian Rules Football club based out of Fairfield, Ohio. Established in 1996, they are the oldest club of its kind in the United States. Last year, the Dockers were co-winners of the USAFL division 4 national championship. For more information about the Dockers please visit their website at www.cincinnatidockers.com.
