Dockers Stall in Second Half, fall to Columbus
The Cincinnati Dockers Australian Rules Football Club opened the festivities of the USA vs. Canada international matches at Mason Sports Park on August 1st, but were not able hold back their in-state rivals, the Columbus Jackaroos, for all 40 minutes as Dockers fell 42-14.

The Dockers were immediately set back when player/coach Kyle Strenski was unavailable to play in this condensed game, as he would play for the USA reserve squad in their match later that day. Despite this setback, the Dockers showed grit and toughness in the first half, as they matched the Jackaroos in scoring shots, with each side making 4 each. The Dockers proved to be more accurate, scoring 2 goals and 2 behinds for 14 points, against Columbus’ 1 goal and 3 behinds for 9 points.

The second half was a much different story, as the Jackaroos denied the Dockers a single point. Cincinnati were able to win plenty of center rucks, but Columbus were better able to pick the ball out from those contests, and not allow the Dockers to advance the ball into their forward line, forcing the defense to work overtime in that period. Columbus’ 33 unanswered points were more than enough to put away the Dockers on this afternoon. The final score had Cincinnati with 2 goals and 2 behinds for 14 points to Columbus’ 6 goals and 6 behinds for 42 points.

Dockers to open 2009 USA vs. Canada International Matches
The Cincinnati Dockers Australian Rules Football Club will continue its 13th USAFL season at 11:30 AM on August 1st when they open the festivities at the USA vs. Canada international matches at the Mason Sports Park in Mason, OH, where they will once again challenge their in-state rivals, the Columbus Jackaroos.

This will be the third meeting between the two clubs this season, with each side holding one victory thus far. Back on April 25th, the Jackaroos pulled out a tough victory over the Dockers 59-50 in a 40-minute match as part of the John Harrell Memorial Cup tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. Almost 3 months later, the Dockers traveled to Ohio’s capital and earned a victory in monsoon-like conditions 45-19. This third match will be the rubber match and will determine which team reigns supreme in Ohio. The match is currently scheduled for 2 20-minute halves.
